Marketing Lesson #2: Register the domain name of your brand. It seems to me that in 2004, if I was a Hollywood director, and my debut feature film unseated a Mel Gibson production from the #1 spot at the domestic box office and I helmed the nation's best-selling DVD (two million+ units) for the week that ended October 31st - I probably should have had my own domain name - particularly when annual domain name registration can be had for less than $7. Congratulations Zack Snyder - You're two for two: Dawn of the Dead (2004) and Frank Miller's 300 (2007).
Milestones 3/11/2007: According to Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily, 300 shattered the record for the biggest March opening ever with $70+ million, and it could end up as one of Warner Brother's most profitable films. Zack is now Warners' go-to director. 4/15/2007: 300 sailed past the $200 million line at the domestic box office this weekend. 7/12/2007: 300 finishes its worldwide theatrical run with $456 million - the #1 R-rated film of 2007. 7/31/2007: 300 available on DVD and HD DVD. 8/8/2007: 300 reaches 250,000 HD DVD units sold making it easily the fastest and highest selling HD title ever. 9/29/2008: Electronic Arts Inc. inks deal with Zack's Cruel & Unusual Films to develop three original EA video games.
Zack, contact me to turn this domain over to you. . .all great directors should have one. And no, I'm not going to charge you. . . just lookin' out for ya!
